2. Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform to the following standards:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This is our primary accessibility target.
- EN 301 549 — European standard for ICT accessibility, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA (applicable for EU/EEA compliance).
- ADA and Section 508 (United States) — We design the Service to support compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (United Kingdom) — Where applicable, we follow UK accessibility regulations derived from EN 301 549.
- Accessible Canada Act — We support the principles of the Accessible Canada Act and applicable provincial accessibility legislation (e.g., AODA in Ontario).
3. Current Status
KidStarter is actively working toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. Our current efforts include:
- Semantic HTML structure and meaningful heading hierarchy;
- Keyboard navigability for all core functions;
- Support for screen readers (tested with NVDA, VoiceOver, JAWS);
- Sufficient color contrast ratios;
- Descriptive alt text for images;
- Focus indicators for interactive elements;
- Responsive design for various devices and screen sizes;
- Skip navigation links;
- ARIA landmarks and roles where appropriate;
- Accessible forms with proper labels and error messages.
We recognize that some areas of the Service may not yet fully meet our target standard. We are committed to identifying and addressing these gaps.
4. Known Limitations
We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are working to address them:
- [Describe any known issues, e.g., "Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers."]
- [Describe any known issues, e.g., "Third-party embedded content (e.g., payment processor forms) may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control."]
